“Nerdy Littles” Blog Series, Part 1: The Best Retro Games for Cg/l Couples!

Nerdy Littles Banner

Good Morning Friends!

I hope you all are having a Happy Hump Day! It’s a brand new day, so I want to shake things up a bit with this new, light-hearted series. Now let me say right off the bat: I’m a GIANT nerd! I’m a gamer girl who has played almost every MMORPG. I also have a Steam account with loads of games. I have apps with games. I am a HUGE Marvels fan. I will argue that Star Wars 1, 2, and 3 is better than 4, 5, and 6 until I’m blue in the face. (Blasphemy I know! Hehe!). And yes, I even owned my N.E.S. until just 2 years ago. So, when I speak about being a nerdy little…. I know a thing or two ;).

That said, there are some amazing retro games that are great for Cg/l couples. And that, my dear friends, is the focus of today’s topic. I love Monopoly just as much as the next chick, but it can be pretty boring with just two people. So I’ve compiled a list of retro games that you can play as a couple, that will also make your little side squeal. Are you ready to go “old school” with me? Then, let’s dive in.

I. Operation

I love this board game. From having to be super careful lest you buzz the patients nose, to the funny objects inside the body, this board game is a classic that can easily be enjoyed in Little Space with your Daddy or Mommy. It’s readily accessible at most major retailers and is super simple to learn to play if you’re new to the game. I definitely think this is a must for Cg/l couples to try. II. Jenga

Y’all…. I love playing Jenga and this would be so fun to play in Little Space. Why? Because you’re essentially playing with blocks while playing with your Cg too! It’s a win-win. Laugh the night away as you “egg” each other on, making your tower become more and more unstable until it topples to the ground! To purchase Jenga on Amazon, click here!

III. Bop-It

I actually own a Bop-It because it’s so much fun to play and makes me feel Little in a heartbeat. What I love about Bop-It are several things: 1. It’s great for fine motor skills and is a “brain game” (I know, nerdy answer but in short, it’s great for your brain!). 2. It has a multi-player mode with verbal commands as well as an auditory/beat only mode to make things more difficult. 3. It gets progressively more difficult and the beat speeds up, so it’s fun and challenging. To purchase Bop-It on Amazon, click here!

IV. Battleship

If you ever want to see Nani and I talk “smack” to each other, give us Battleship, and grab a bowl of popcorn, because y’all…. I get competitive with Battleship (LOL)! Even “Little Me” would be like “Boom! I sunk your destroyer, Nani! HA!”. Yes, this game is designed for 2 players and is loads of fun. You don’t need Battleship deluxe or whatever the new “talking version” is. Grab the retro game, save some money, and do it old school style with a pen and paper. V. Hungry, Hungry Hippos

Now this is the PERFECT game for you and your Little to play together. The rules are simple: smash your hippo over and over until all of the marbles are gobbled up. The one with the most marbles eaten, wins! You can spice it up by playing “strip hungry hungry hippo” if you’d like. Or, simply let your Little One squeal with glee as they bop the button over and over. It’s a great stress release and loads of fun. To purchase Hungry, Hungry Hippos on Amazon, click here!

VI. Connect 4

This simple game is a 2-player game that is easy for anyone to learn. Simply take turns dropping in your red or yellow token as you stack on one another and try to make 4 of your color in a row. The first to make 4 in a row, in any direction, wins! What I love about this game is that it’s so simple that you can focus on being in Little Space as you play. It isn’t overly complicated so as to distract you from your headspace. Simply play with your Cg, and let go. To purchase Connect 4 on Amazon, click here!

VII. Jacks

This game is very “old school” but there’s a reason why it’s still on the market. Jacks is a simple game where players take turns bouncing a rubber ball while trying to pick up as many jacks before the ball hits the ground again. It’s excellent for coordination and will give you and your Cg loads of laughs. (Plus it’s very inexpensive too!). To purchase Jacks on Amazon, click here!

VIII. Guess Who?

This two person game is a blast to play with your Daddy or Mommy. Sit face to face as you ask questions back and forth about facial features on the game pieces, eliminating groups one by one, until you narrow down your guess as to who your partner’s card is! No doubt every Little will enjoy playing this game. To purchase Guess Who? on Amazon, click here!

Alright my friends, that’s from me for this post. I hope you all enjoyed it. If you did, hit that like button and let me know. Smash that follow button if you’re new around here, and I will see you back here for the next topic!

Much love,

~Kitten/Punkin Xx

  1. Oh, the blasphemy of saying Star Wars 1, 2 and 3 are better! There’s no way they could ever be better. But, aside from that, this was a wonderful post. As you know, I love playing board games myself. “Life” is another great game to play with your Daddy too. So is Uno and Quixx. 🙃
