Day 2 of “Diving into Disney”: Peter Pan

Good Morning Friends!

I hope everyone had a wonderful night’s rest and dreamed about all things Disney. Last night we watched Cinderella. Tonight we are diving into Peter Pan! When I was a little girl my parents exposed me to not only the animated version of Peter Pan, but also the 1954 musical version of Peter Pan, starring Mary Martin. (If you haven’t seen it, I encourage you to do so. It’s fabulous!!). I clutched my VHS tape in my hands and watched Mary Martin sing her heart out as she flew across the stage. Captain Hook and his crew of pirates played instruments and slinked around trying to chase her. I was captivated from start to finish.

I. Peter Pan:

Loyalty: the act of being committed and steadfast to those around you and what you believe in.

The story of Peter Pan (originally written by J.M. Barrie) is a wonderful story about a boy who is accidentally lost shortly after being born. A strong wind blows Peter’s pram/stroller away from his mother and he tumbles to the ground. Lost and fated to perish, suddenly he is covered in magical pixie dust as Tinkerbell whisks him away as an infant to the island of Neverland.

It is there that Peter make friends with people from all walks of life. He befriends the daughter of the local Indian tribe: Tiger Lily. He outwits Captain Hook and his crew of pirates. But most of all, he becomes the big brother (and leader) of The Lost Boys.

We all have people in our lives who come to form our own circle of “Lost Boys”. We create a family of non-blood related people who mean the world to us. We share life’s joys and sorrows with our family which brings us ever closer. This is the beauty of life. We can’t always shield our hearts from pain. There will be times where bad things happen and voids hurt our heart and soul. But it is the love and loyalty of our family, friends, and entire support systems that helps us get through each and every day. Nurture your connections in life. Reach out and make friends in the community. Just as Peter had to reach out and create his own family, so too do I encourage you to form your own circle. Rejoice in who you are and share that with the world, because the world needs more people just like YOU!

III. Little Space Activity: Walk the Plank Game!

A very famous scene in the animated classic movie is when Peter Pan is sword fighting Captain Hook. Peter Pan outwits Captain Hook by leading him across the plank and over the sea below. As Hook splashes into the water he is greeted by the hungry crocodile (who has a clock in his belly!) who wants to eat Hook’s other hand! In today’s activity, you will be Peter Pan trying to save the lost boys from Captain Hook and his crew of naughty pirates!

Begin by taking scotch tape and making a “plank” across an open floor space of your home. You can make your plank as large or small as you’d like. I encourage you to get creative and put zig-zags and various directions in your course. Next, stack up some plastic cups at the end of the plank. These will act as the Lost Boys.

Here’s my plank! 🙂

Next, press play on the song below and then stretch out your arms. Carefully walk back and forth along the line as you hurry to fetch each cup. You may only pick up one cup at a time. Once all of the Lost Boys has been saved, you win! 🙂

IV. Personal Development Lesson:

In today’s lesson you will be reading more about loyalty and how it pertains to Cg/l relationships. As Littles we demonstrate loyalty in many ways. We are loyal to our dominant in our relationships. We are loyal to our friends and family as we nurture our connections. We are committed and steadfast in cultivating who we are as a Little, thus being loyal to ourselves as we discover who we are as a person. Becoming a Little, and identifying as an Adult Little is its own journey into loyalty. In today’s printable you are given the following critical thinking questions:

When it comes to a relationship, how important to you is the value of loyalty? Do you believe that there needs to be a sense of loyalty between a Caregiver and a Little? What are some ways that you demonstrate loyalty with your dominant?

Don’t forget to come watch “Peter Pan” with me and my friends, tonight on our Discord server at 7 PM PST . Tonight we will be showing a double-feature beginning with the animated movie, and following up with the live action musical (with Mary Martin!). I can’t wait to see and chat with all of you!!

Much love,

~Penny xx

P.S.- Here are some fantastic versions of Peter Pan that are my personal favorites! I hope you give them all a view and let me know what you think. xx
